WHERE IT STARTED
Lyme Cage
My grandparents’ first date was up at Lyme Cage. Looking down over the hills, my grandad told my grandma that one day he’d buy her a house down there. Our family home was built to look out at the Cage from the conservatory. I grew up with that view, walking up through the woods to the Cage and spending time in the Hall, with deer wandering down from the park into our garden.
LYME ROAD
A woodland edge
That edge, where the trees give way to open ground and the light gets in, is still my favourite part of any landscape. On a private garden on Lyme Road I’m bringing it home: dry-stone walls, foliage-led planting, mostly white flowers with notes of blush and mauve, a white-flowered redbud, and the red-stemmed dogwoods we kept.
What I do in Disley
Woodland-edge, shade and foliage planting are favourites. And the florist in me loves a woodland garden: branches and catkins to cut in winter, seedheads in autumn.
DESIGN
The whole garden rethought, from survey to planting plan.
PLANTING
Planting design
Good bones, tired planting? New borders that do more all year.
FROM £950
A rectangle of turf and a fence, turned into a garden.
CARE
Looking after your garden as it grows, the way it was meant to.
How it works
STEP 1
A brew and a chat
We talk about your garden, how you use it and what you’d love it to be.
STEP 2
Visit and survey
I come and look properly: soil, light, slope, and what’s already thriving.
STEP 3
The design
A layout and planting plan made for your garden, tweaked until it feels right.
STEP 4
Planting and care
I plant it up, and I can keep looking after it as it settles in.
Disley sits where the Cheshire plain meets the Peak District, and lots of gardens here have woodland on the doorstep. Plant to blend with it rather than fight it, and a garden feels like it has always belonged.
Good to know.
Do you cover nearby villages?
Yes: Disley, High Lane, Lyme Handley, Kettleshulme, Whaley Bridge, New Mills, Marple, Marple Bridge and Mellor. For bigger gardens I’ll happily go further, to Poynton, Bramhall, Prestbury, Bollington, Alderley Edge and Wilmslow.
Woodland planting, small garden?
Yes. It is about layers, a tree or two, shrubs, then ground-level planting, and about leaf shape and texture more than size.
Can I keep my existing plants?
Always, where they’re healthy and earning their place. On Lyme Road we kept the dogwoods and worked round them.
What does it cost?
New-build gardens start from £950. Other gardens are priced once I’ve seen them. The first chat is free.
Can you look after it too?
Yes. I can keep caring for the garden as it settles in and grows.
